Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I have a love/hate relationship with New Years Day. I love the clean slate and the idea that there is a whole new year ahead of me that is fresh and holds so much potential. I hate that I have an empty year ahead of me that holds a vast amount of the unknown. There is so much pressure to make the new year something different and better than the last year. The good with the bad; the leaving behind with the fear of the unknown; the forging ahead with the grieving of the past. I both love and hate this time of year.

Somehow I think that is the point. Life is full of the good with the bad; the easy with the hard. It’s what makes us who we are. I have a saying that I use with my kids, “You can do hard things.” I think that will be my motto this year. I want to embrace the hard things because when we embrace the difficult things we get to realize the amazing things.

Starting a business is hard. Not harder than I thought it would be, but it’s different imagining the pain versus feeling the burn in your lungs from running the marathon. I’m learning so much, though!

This year I am excited to even be able to have business goals and am looking forward to what this year brings.

  1. The photos of the duck and the tree both depict reflection in the water. This time of year always feels like a time for reflection – to wonder how the world sees me, how I see myself, and who I want to be in the future. These are frightening questions to ask and I, too, have a love/hate relationship with this season of reflection.
